Usb terminal 3 adapter

Post by italyassistance »

I've had a strange problem for some time now, I've had problems with the USB terminal 3, mainly on Seagate models, basically when I try to read the rom the USB always gives me "reply timeout error" both on portable III and on UDMA, software version 7.3. 18, windows 10, does anyone else have the same problem as me and know how I could solve it? Already tried reinstalling the system and reinstalling the PC-3000 software

It may be because the PCB/ROM is not supported. On many modern Seagates the ROM needs to be read via a reader, then unlocked in PC3000 and written back to the ROM with the reader. Also a good idea to use a donor ROM in case anything goes wrong with reading/writing.

Hi, yes I am aware of the more recent models, but I have this problem with all Seagates, in fact I can't currently read the rom even of a 2016 ST1000LM035, and I can't enter the utility in a previously unlocked rom... I don't want it to be a bug in PC3000 version 7.3.18

Maybe your terminal adapter has failed?
Have you reinstalled the driver?

Perform a Tx-Rx loopback test.

Connect the Tx output pin to the Rx input pin, then type something on your keyboard. You should see the typed characters being echoed on the screen. Alternatively, create a test file consisting of 1 million repetitions of 0x55 or 0xAA (alternating 1s and 0s) and then output the file to the COM port using the slowest available baud rate, eg 300bps. Follow the data path on an oscilloscope. This should identify any hardware fault. You should see a regular pulse train (square wave).
