Re: SpinRite

That's a good post on how data recovery should be done. Nice one! Thanks. I'm sure that they can try to respond with all sorts of mumbo-jumbo, but I can only hope that those who are intelligent and reading my comment will have their eyes opened. I remember getting a case in where the tech ran Spinr...

Re: SpinRite

While not dealing with the technical side of things, I couldn't help but jump in. Let's see if my first post will be my last.

Re: SpinRite

It didn't take long. He just called me an ignorant Internet troll. :-) You know way more that Steve does. ;) It just shows how much of a bubble these gusys are in. I don't think there is a data recovery or storage related forum on the English speaking internet where Franc isn't an active member, us...

Re: SpinRite

Here is a response from Serge: We’ve noticed cases like this several years ago, i.e. drives which would read 1 of 8 logical sectors from a single physical sector. We thought it might be a bug with our tools, so we spent some time testing this, concluded that this is real drive behavior sometimes, an...

Feature requested

I've submitted the feature request to allow us the option of being able to block SA, mod 02 and mod 30 when unlocking the ROM for a modern Spyglass variant drive on PC3000. We sill need to save the modifed ROM to a new file and then directly write it back to the patient PCB, but at least it will sim...

Re: R-Studio and RapidSpar

I've spent so much time with my Stablizer-10G beta testing that I forgot to play with R-Studio and RapidSpar. Serge admits that the speed isn't great and that they are working on an update to the API right now.

Re: SpinRite

It probably wouldn't hurt to reword it, though I wasn't pushing for it. But, they do need to see reality.

Re: SpinRite

spinrite.png Is the first statement really true? How can anyone claim that a process that does not transfer a single sector from a failing drive with a high chance of completete failure and head crash is data recovery? And to the statement that it was a tie between RapidSpar and Spinrite, how can t...

Re: SpinRite

Does 6.1 now clone the sectors it reads or does it still just assume that the failing drive will stay running forever?

Re: SpinRite

I cloned the same drive again with the RapidSpar Disk Imager. The previous 81 unreadable blocks have gone, it's now zero, so somethings happened, hmm interesting. I can only assume that had this been a real Data Recovery case, 81 blocks of data are now gone, this clearly is not a real Data Recovery...
