Re: SpinRite

If 2 we get either nothing (as drive response is binary: either (corrected) data or error + no data). Actually, there is at least one well known exception involving "moLD" or "241A" sectors in Seagate Rosewood drives. https://groups.google.com/g/datarecoverycertification/c/dgA7k...

Re: SpinRite

I find it interesting and alarming that drives write/return bogus data. In essence USBC issue is in this category as well, https://www.disktuna.com/sudden-appeara ... and-files/.

Re: Fzabkar is always welcome here

How dare you help others @fzabkar? I bet that on hddguru, most of the members have used your free information for gain, whether or not they admit it. I am willing to bet money on that too. I know I for certain have searched specifically for Franc's posts on hddguru and hddoracle too. It's not a sin...

Re: SpinRite

What did Mr Gish Gallop do that made this happen? Wonder if he used FORCEBIOS? Looking at his bug report again, I think he forced use of USBCHK to access the full USB drive as SCSI. But probably failed to to the proper hash checks and is seeing the 137GB BIOS USB Limit Bug. That would explai...

Re: SpinRite

I can't help but feel that all the effort is pointless. The author refuses to say what "Dynastat" is actually doing, but AFAICT it is based on false premises and obsolete ATA commands. Moreover, many drives that appear to still support "long reads" will often produce indetermina...

Re: SpinRite

Does anyone know where the development of SpinRite is heading? Does anyone have the v6.1 beta versions? Is there a changelog? I have been following it. Major thing in 6.0 -> 6.1 is stop using BIOS to access ATA drives. Many of what follows is issues that surfaced as a result of that. So for example...

Oh nice, thanks. I had been wondering where one would best ask such a question.

Re: Canon R6 CR3 format

No, CR3 = MP4 container. Last few bytes don't matter, CR3 is picky when it comes to atom sizes. This doesn't add or remove arbitrary bytes, it makes file size match atom sizes:
