Re: SpinRite

What about sectors 85,557,313 - 85,557,343? If there were a 4K issue, why weren't there 8 consecutive LBAs in the log? I was more thinking along the lines that SSD smallest unit that can be read is a page, on lower level, you can request a sector but to get that an entire page is read. I think thes...

Re: SpinRite

This seems very similar to the 4K sector issue you observed earlier Franc: https://www.grc.com/x/news.exe/2024.01.12870evobad.log.gz?cmd=article&group=grc.spinrite.dev&item=53528&part=2&utag=&/2024.01.12870evobad.log.gz In this case it's a SSD with as far as I can tell a 16K page...

The amount of Dunning Kruger in this forum is amazing! Look at this, https://forums.grc.com/threads/pre-release-5-06.1427/post-10855. "Occasionally, I give digital forensic training to LEA in my country. Once, I mentioned your software to help solve the slowness in old HDDs that needed to be fo...

Of course, developers have the right to decide whether to provide a DEMO code, which is just a string of numbers.

But please do not base yourself on a moral level and baselessly accuse an applicant of illegal or deceptive behavior.

Re: UFS Explorer Technician

The technical version supports more data types and other unique features. I just wanted to test it. Maybe the technical version has better data recovery capabilities. This has nothing to do with who will use this software... If it is really useful, wouldn't they selling to individual users? I'm con...

Re: Is flash drive zeroed or translator wiped ..

Perhaps also mildly interesting difference in consumption between writing zeros and wiping translator .. This also sort of led me to conclusion the MPtool is wiping translator probably because consumption NAND erase > consumption writing zeros. Zero filling: https://youtube.com/shorts/-NOu95TrLEM?fe...

Is flash drive zeroed or translator wiped ..

I had this idea we might be able to detect somehow without chip-off to see reading back zeros or FF pattern may be due to a pattern written or wiped translator. Hypothesis being: I expect wiped translator to result in faster read-speed than reading back a pattern that was written and possibly power ...

Re: SpinRite

I've been trying to get Steve to come clean on what "Dynastat" actually does in modern drives, ie any drive produced since SR v6.0. However, he has been avoiding the question. AFAICT, SR v6.0 (copyright 2004) predates the ATA 48-bit SCT READ LONG command, which was introduced some time af...
