Re: Cryptolocker 3.0

Nice. And if your NAS is mapped to a drive letter, will even encrypt the files there too. So you might even lose your backup. I think the only sure way to be safe from such a virus is to either have cold backups, or a NAS which saves back versions of files like my Synology does. The last customer I ...

Re: MHDD - LBA Warning + single < 500ms block

To answer your question about RMA, I don't believe most manufacturers will accept returns unless it at least has some actual bad/remapped sectors accd. to the S.M.A.R.T. data. So that's usually a good place to check. If you get SMART errors, you can generally RMA.

Re: Extra "Data Recovery Forums" Breadcrumb

There we go, I figured it out. Just had to create a category and add them all to it. Let's see how it effects my forum's rank now.

Extra "Data Recovery Forums" Breadcrumb

I notice that you made all of your forums subcategories of the "data recovery forums" forum. I wonder if this is why google puts your forum on page one while mine is on page two. You're getting that keyword in twice with each post. Perhaps I should change mine to be like that too. Perhaps ...

Re: MHDD - LBA Warning + single < 500ms block

Yes I agree with Luke, the drive may still work for a long time with just an area of slow reading sectors. However I wouldn't trust it with any data that's not backed up as drives like that can quickly degrade even fail completely in some cases. Also in the future before running drive intensive task...

Re: Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001

Unfortunately when a Seagate with DM in the model is clicking, it's never a good thing. Guaranteed to be an expensive recovery and not very likely to be successful either. Sorry to say. Luke from Recovery Force is actually getting good with these models though. Probably because other data recovery c...

Re: Gotta love UPS backups.

Yeah, I learned my lesson about UPS's long ago and now run everything in my lab on one. Saved me countless times with the unreliable power here in RI.

Re: Seagate DM Series Drives

Good, I'm going to send all of mine to you from now on instead of pulling my hair out dealing with these nightmares. I think it really just comes down to inconsistent manufacturing and quality control on the part of Seagate. The density of modern drives makes the data too small to be able to handle ...
