Re: Learning ASM
I haven't written Assembly code since the mid 90's. Can't say that I miss it, though it was the one course that landed me an A+ in computer science.

Re: Kahuna_5400 ST500LM000
The SSD cache is toast on the patient board. It is just an odd duckling model where things just don't work like they should when writing the ROM to a donor board. In communicating with peers, it seems that I need a board that already has the same firmware on it, though I'm not convinced that it will...

Kahuna_5400 ST500LM000
Model: ST500LM000
PN: 1EJ162-174
SN: W76
FW: LIM2
DOM: 30NOV2016
In this case, I need the exact same FW version, LIM2. I've got dozens of SSHD boards for this model of drive, but none of them will work with the patient ROM.

Re: This makes no sense but is it true?
My basic understanding is that a sector in the g-list has already been remapped for LBA use. If you clear the g-list, it simply puts those bad sectors back into "available" circulation for the next remapping that might be needed. I can't see low a LLF would make a difference, other than po...

Re: AFH Adjustment Successes
Even though I usually set it for jumps of 0x10, I tend to jump by 0x20 for the first couple of attempts. It doesn't always works, especially with the Rosewood series drives. I always save to ROM and repower to test. At the end of the day, a head swap usually works when AFH adjustments don't.

Re: SpinRite
We think we got the data from this bad sector 100%. Don't worry, even if we didn't, it is unlikely you will ever notice.
